| PhpBB is the first forum I ever used on a live site, and is still the forum I am using on one of my sites to this very day. It is easy to install and it's biggest selling point is it is free! I have found it not to be as powerful as some of the other alternatives out there, and have had to mod it heavily in order to make it more functional. The big downside to this of course is when a new update is released it makes it very difficult to update your forum. Having said this one downside to this forum is the lack of updates. They have a large active community over at PHpBB, and I have always found someone willing to help with questions. Having said this make sure you read their rules very carefully because if you post is the wrong forum you are liable to get your head bitten off! It has never happened to me but I have seen several new people make this mistake. More tolerance is needed for people new to the community! |
